Employment opportunity at the World Wildlife Fund

Description:
The World Wildlife Fund seeks a freshwater GIS specialist to work in its Conservation Science Program. The Conservation Science Program develops innovative approaches for conservation planning at large scales and aids in the implementation of those approaches around the world. The freshwater specialist will work with staff biologists to analyze patterns of freshwater biodiversity at global, continental, ecoregional, and landscape scales; evaluate threats to freshwater systems using a combination of GIS, remote sensing, and hydrologic modeling; identify priorities for conservation through data analysis and collaboration with scientific experts; integrate freshwater priorities with those in the marine and terrestrial realms; collaborate with counterparts in other conservation organizations; and provide technical assistance and training to WWF staff in other countries.

Requirements:
Requires an advanced degree in freshwater ecology, hydrology, or a GIS technology-oriented field; at least two years experience in the application of spatial data and GIS to freshwater conservation problems; technical proficiency with NT workstation and with Arc/Info and ArcView software; familiarity with important GIS-associated tasks such as digitizing and data conversion, integration, and analysis; strong analytical capabilities; experience with processing and analysis of remote sensing imagery; willingness to travel extensively and be flexible in project and work schedules; ability to work independently. Knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, French, or other languages is preferred.
