National Hydrography Dataset

The US Geological Survey and the US Environmental Protection Agency have been working for some years preparing a new 1:100,000 scale digital representation of the river network of the United States called the National Hydrography Dataset.  More information on this project can be obtained from http://nhd.usgs.gov .  This effort is nearing completion and data are being issued in 8-digital hydrologic cataloging unit packages as they are completed.   As these data become available they will be an important base source of information for the object model for rivers and watersheds being devised by the GIS in Water Resources Consortium.  Discussion is ongoing as to how best to accomplish that objective.
