ArcGIS - HSPF Research at CRWR

ArcGIS tools for HSPF (updated 9/26/05)

For my Master's Research at the University of Texas at Austin, I worked at the Center for Research and Water Resources (CRWR) to develop an interface between ArcGIS (specifically the Arc Hydro data model) and the HSPF model .  My work began as an attempt to design a database that would store all the information used in an HSPF model (the entire .uci file and .wdm timeseries files) as well as geospatial data used to develop a model.

Over the project lifetime, the scope changed and eventually represented an attempt to reproduce the BASINS HSPF preprocessor (which ran in the ArcView 3.x environment) in the new ArcGIS (9.x) environment.  Tools that reproduce the BASINS preprocessing methodology in the ModelBuilder environment are complete, but not yet in a fully distributable form.  In addition, a database structure and associated tools are being developed to write timeseries stored in the Arc Hydro format to .wdm files and update .uci files to read the new timeseries.  I finished my Master's degree in the summer of 2005, and the tools are documented in my Master's Thesis that is available with other CRWR publicaitons at:  http://www.crwr.utexas.edu/online.shtml

The files on this page represent various papers, presentations, and webpages that document my masters research.  If you would like to know more about this research or try the prototype tools, please contact me at njohnson@mail.utexas.edu:
