Implementing Custom Data Models

In order for ArcInfo to recognize the custom features from a data model, the .dll associated with the model must be registered.  This is done by dragging and dropping the .dll over the RegCat application using Windows Explorer.  The following example outlines the procedure for registering the ArcGIS Hydro Data Model .dll.

1.  Locate the .dll.

The .dll for each geodatabase on this CD-Rom can be found in the same folder in which the geodatabase resides. Note that the ArcGIS Hydro Data Model .dll (AHDM.dll) is used for all geodatabases except DFIRM.mdb.  Once you register AHDM.dll, you will not have to register it again in order to use any geodatabase associated with AHDM.dll.

2.  Copy AHDM.dll to ESRI\ArcInfo\bin

3.  Drag and Drop the .dll over the RegCat application.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to ESRI\ArcInfo\bin.  RegCat is an application in this folder which is used to register .dll's.  Find AHDM.dll in this folder.  Drag AHDM.dll over RegCat by clicking on AHDM.dll with the left mouse button and then holding the left mouse button down as you drag the file.

Once AHDM.dll is over RegCat, release the left mouse button to drop the .dll onto RegCat.  A dialog box will open where you may choose which application to register the .dll to.  Check ArcMap and ArcCatalog and then click on Register.  Note that you will need to repeat this procedure on each computer with which you want to use the ArcGIS Hydro Data Model.

The .dll is now registered and ArcInfo will recognize custom features, relationships, and behaviors associated with that .dll.
