Application to the Lower Colorado River Basin
GIS tools were used to produce a model of the Lower Colorado River Basin in Texas, and edge catchments and watersheds for this large basin were delineated in great detail. This chapter explains the delineation process, and how the data set fits into the structure of the ArcGIS Hydro Data Model.
In this chapter:
· Defining the Scope of Interest
· Building the Hydro Network
· Delineating the Edge Catchments
· Delineating Watersheds from Points of Interest
· Defining Hydro Response Units
· Applying the Model
· Creating a Map of the Result

Chapter 8 Data

NHD_derived_HydroLines is the river network created from the National Hydrography Dataset in the Building the Hydro Network section of the chapter. DEM_derived_FlowEdges is the river network created from NHD_derived_HydroLines, the DEMs, and a minimum drainage area threshold. The DEM_derived_FlowEdges are associated one to one with the edge catchments in DEM_derived_ReachCatchments. LCRA_FlowGages gives locations of the LCRA's flow gages, and Gage_Watersheds is a set of watersheds delineated from these gages. NEXRAIN is a radar grid provided by the NEXRAIN Corporation showing a grid of hydrologic response units for a small area in Austin. LCRA_Waterbodies shows the important waterbodies in the study.
The geodatabase (in zipped format) can be found in the folder ArcGIS\Chapter8\Chapter8data, along with the DLL file needed in order to run the ArcGIS Hydro Data Model in ArcCatalog or ArcMap. For instructions on how to use the DLL file and deploy the data model, go to the Instructions page.
The clipped and projected DEMs used for edge catchment delineation are available to the reader at the CRWR ftp site at ftp://ftp.crwr.utexas.edu/pub/consortium/CoDEMs, although they could not be added to the Colorado feature dataset. They are called CO_upper and CO_lower, respectively.
Chapter 8 Display
The data from Chapter 8 can be viewed as a map document or template in ArcMap.

The map is called Colorado_Map and can be found in the folder ArcGIS\Chapter8\Chapter8Data and viewed in ArcMap.
