Chapter 10

Application to the Trinity-San Jacinto Coastal Basin

The ArcGIS Hydro Data Model contains components designed for application on the coast, such as shorelines and waterbody catchments.  The Trinity-San Jacinto Coastal Basin incorporates these data features and shows how drainage areas and flow lines to segments of bays and estuaries can be defined.

In this chapter:

·         Defining the Scope of Interest

·         Building the Hydro Network

·         Delineating Edge Catchments

·         Delineating Watersheds from Points of Interests

·         Applying the Model

·         Creating a Map of the Results

Chapter 10 Data

The data discussed in Chapter 10 is located in the geodatabase TSJ.mdb, within the feature dataset Coastal_Basin.  The feature HydroEdge is the Hydro Network stream features, subtyped by Flow Edge, Virtual Flow Edge, and Shoreline Edge.  The feature Catchments are the delineated Edge Catchments from the Hydro Network.  The feature WQ_Bays and WQ_Segments are the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission (TNRCC) water quality management segments, and act as points of interest in the Trinity-San Jacinto coastal basin.  The feature WQ_Watershed are the watersheds delineated from the water quality management segments.  The features Region_reach, Region_wb, Route_drain, Route_reach, and Burn_streams are included in the geodatabase in order for the reader to manipulate the data as described in the chapter and reproduce the results.

The geodatabase (in zipped format) can be found in the folder ArcGIS\Chapter10\Chapter10data, along with the DLL file needed in order to run the ArcGIS Hydro Data Model in ArcCatalog or ArcMap. For instructions on how to use the DLL file and deploy the data model, go to the Instructions page.

The accompanying DEM, tsjdem, can also be found in the folder ArcGIS\Chapter10\Chapter10Data.
