Biography

Virginia came to Texas in the fall of 2006 to pursue her master's degree in Environmental and Water Resource Engineering at the University of Texas .  Virginia  grew up around the world, living in  Iceland , America ,  Germany , Japan , and Greece .  Her travels finally landed her in Georgia where she attended college at Georgia Institute of Technology.  While at Georgia Tech, Virginia studied Civil and Environmental Engineering, worked as a co-op for Lowe Engineers and a teaching assistant, ran track and cross country for the university, as well as partook in several clubs.  After graduating she briefly worked for Lowe Engineers before joining the Peace Corps.  Virginia served her Peace Corps service in Western Samoa .  While in the Peace Corps she worked on the Samoan National Water Project and several small scale develop projects.  In the fall of 2006 Virginia began her pursuit of a master’s degree at the University of Texas .  Her studies focus on water resource engineering.  She is working on research under the direction of Dr. Maidment at the Center of Research in Water Resources.

Research

Virginia is working on an Integrated Drought Information System (IDIS) for the Texas Natural Resource Information System (TNRIS).  The IDIS is being developed to serve as a state-wide information system for drought.  The goal of the project is to create a service that will improve drought monitoring, management and warning systems.
