Biography

Coming from Utah, Clark brought his wife, Maryann, and two small children, David and Rebecca, to Texas where he works towards advanced degrees in water resources engineering. Clark likes learning and helping others, but he loves his family.

While at Brigham Young University (BYU), Clark was fascinated by the abilities provided by digital terrain data to model watersheds and predict water paths. BYU houses the think tank Environmental Modeling Research Laboratory (EMRL), origin of the Watershed Modeling System (WMS) software. Through traditional hydrology and hydraulics courses and an applied digital watershed mapping course, Clark was drenched in his pursuit of learning about water engineering and geospatial hydrology.

After graduating and working briefly at EMRL, Clark came to work with and study under Dr. David Maidment at the Center for Research in Water Resources (CRWR) where the application of digital information for the advancement of hydrological science is at its peak.

Research

The Water Rights Analysis Package (WRAP)  is a computer model for simulating water resources management. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) uses WRAP as part of its water availability modeling. Clark is involved in research to take the output of WRAP and display it in a geographical information system (GIS) environment. This research involves not only the programmatic development of digital tools, but an exploration into the future of database management techniques and strategies.
